Our winemaking tradition dates back to 1912 when Pociano Moreno built the first wine cellar with capacity for 18,000 litres. In 1963 the family moved to Barcelona in search of a better future than that offered by farming communities at that time. At the end of 1981 David Moreno decided to leave his job as a Technical Engineer and move back to his village, and put into practice the winemaking knowledge he had learned from his father and grandfather and to make his dream of being a winemaker come true. In 1988 construction of the current winery began and this has been enlarged, little by little, to adapt it to our expansion, new technologies and the needs of our customers. The underground cellars with clay and stone walls, Don Ponciano, Abuelo Damián and La Gran Cueva provide our wines with the ideal conditions of temperature and humidity necessary for successful ageing and subsequent bottle life. In a corner of La Gran Cueva you will find the Santuario Vobiscum, a space behind wrought iron railings in which a small stock of casks made from the best French oak are kept to age our Signature Wine. From the 100-year-old olive grove and the wine shop to the underground cellars, a stroll around the winery opens up dozens of special spots which recall our history, culture and the PASSION of DAVID MORENO for wine.

It would be difficult to determine how long my family have been linked to the world of vineyards and wine. Several centuries have probably seen many of them plowing, pruning or harvesting the grapes in the red land in Badarán, in order to obtain the best possible fruit. A plain which is ideal for growing grapes, near San Millán de la Cogolla, in the heart of Rioja Alta and with exceptional soil, altitude and climate conditions, where our Tempranillo, Garnacha, Viura and Maturana Tinta vineyards make it possible for the Martínez Alesanco Family to produce a whole range of wines that would be impossible to obtain in a different environment. In the old cellars the family still keeps, a young Angela Martínez Alesanco appears with her parents Pedro Martinez and Pilar Alesanco, tireless workers from whom she inherited her entrepreneurial spirit, perfectionism and wisdom. We have preserved some vineyards dating back to before the phylloxera plague, which destroyed almost all vineyards in Rioja in the late nineteenth century. The photograph shows Angela and Pedro Martínez Alesanco’s parents and grandparents. Angela is shown in the center quenching her thirst while a very young Peter barely reaches the wooden gates. La vendimia en familia Many years have passed since Pilar Alesanco, our grandmother, cooked dinner for the whole family on grape harvest days. Many things have changed and many people are no longer with us, but we still work, pick grapes an look after the vineyards exactly the way they did and just as we keep their memories alive.
