Über das Weingut und die Weine

​Inspired by an innate love of the land, a number of years back our family decided to return to our origins to relive the wine-making tradition of earlier generations. Upon the advice of expert oenologists and experienced local viticulturists, the vineyard were replanted to outochthonous varieties. And thus we embarked on this unusual and challenging adventure, ruled by the rhythms of nature. The name Fontechiara is a combination of two names: it’s a tribute to Chiara, and to the natural water spring, in Italian “fonte”, found in the property by a water diviner. Vineyards are farmed with natural methods. We strongly believe that making wine from grapes growns without recourse to chemicals is better, both for the planet and for the wine drinker because all of these things can damage the soil, the plant and can end up in the wine as residues.

Fontechiara produces high quality and natural wines DOC COLLINE NOVARESI such as Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Rosato. In the vineyards where the environment is respected and biodiversity encouraged, the vines grow in a living soil, full of worms and bacteria. In our vineyards each and every vine is carefully nurtured. We do grape thinnings in the summer to contain the yield that guarantees an higher quality. All grapes of our wine are harvested by hand on a single day. Then the grapes are gathered, carefully selected by sight and crushed immediately to avoid unwanted fermentation. We follow the fermentation process with care and attention day by day in order to maintain the wine quality properties. We purposely produce only a limited number of bottles per year, that passes our strict quality control along the production chain. As we do not add any animal-derived ingredient during the whole process of the vinification, our wines are vegan certified.
