QUINTA DA SEQUEIRA

Quinta da Sequeira is a traditional family-owned estate located in Horta do Douro, Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Douro Superior – Portugal. Quinta da Sequeira was founded in 1899 by José Joaquim Costa and his wife Maria José de Sequeira, from whom the Quinta gets its name. Today, with 17 ha of vineyards, the estate is owned by Mário Cardoso and Graça Cardoso, the 5th generation of the family. Quinta da Sequeira is dedicated to the production of high quality and exclusive handcrafted wines, DOC wines, Port wine, as well as olive oil. 

The Quinta de Sequeira’s prime location on the Douro Superior, at around 400 metres of altitude, is crucial for the superior quality of the grapes. The combination of a schist soil, very low rainfall and a wide temperature range, provide the most intense and full-bodied wines. During harvest, all the grapes are selected and collected by hand, and transported in cases to the winery, in order to arrive in perfect conditions. Throughout the winemaking process of our best wines, we use the old granite “lagares” with foot treading (pigeage).

As we believe that a wine must have its own personality and character, we preserve some old vineyards. Albeit yields are lower, they offer a superior wine.

We produce exclusive wines, premium and super-premium quality. Regarding DOC wines, we produce five white wines, two rosés, and four red wines. Regarding Ports, we produce White Port, Tawny, Ruby, LBV, Vintage, 10 and 20 Years Old, and Colheitas.
