Über das Weingut und die Weine
Sirromet is a family-owned winery located in picturesque Mount Cotton, a short drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Sirromet's state-of-the-art facilities offer food and wine lovers the ultimate wine experience. The winery's story began when Queensland entrepreneur and businessman Terry Morris was in Victoria for dinner with friends. Terry said he had tried a great wine from Queensland's Granite Belt, and his Victorian friends laughed and said, 'There is no such thing as a great Queensland wine'.
With 100 hectares under vine, Sirrromet's vineyards are situated in the high altitude Granite Belt region of Queensland. The Winery is situated 600-1500 metres above sea level and approximately three hours drive south-west of Brisbane in the area known as 'the Granite Belt', one of the country's coolest wine destinations. The Granite Belt was formed by an ancient tectonic uplift that forced a significant mass of granite 820 metres above sea level. Over time, the softer rocks and soils were eroded, leaving a clearly identifiable granite plateau. Because of its elevation, this plateau experiences some of Australia's coldest winters. The sub-zero temperatures cause water that has been absorbed by the exposed granite boulders and rocks to freeze and expand, forcing mineral particles into the soil. This annual enrichment of the soil allows local vineyards and orchards to grow the highest quality produce with unique, rich flavours.
