Etna Nord: Taste the Excellence of Etna Wines & Light Lunch at Antichi Vinai 1877

The visit to the Gangemi family winery, Antichi Vinai 1877, is designed as an opportunity to experience and explore an ancient craft, immersed in a unique and evocative landscape where Mount Etna is the true protagonist.

Our guests are welcomed by Viviana Gangemi, winemaker and fifth-generation member of the family. After years of experience in both cellar and vineyard, she has chosen to dedicate herself to those who wish to discover the wines of Etna with passion and commitment.

In addition to production methods, Antichi Vinai 1877 shares with you the history of Sicilian and Etnean viticulture, inseparably linked to that of the Gangemi family, who have been producing wine in this unique terroir for nearly 150 years.

The experience begins with a welcome in the panoramic tasting room, overlooking our vineyards nestled among historic lava flows from 1879 and 1614, at the foot of the extinct Moio crater, in the beautiful Alcantara Valley. A breathtaking sight is guaranteed. We then proceed with a guided tour of the production and aging cellars, to convey our philosophy and production methods, but above all, the history and evolution of the Etnean wine “continent”.

If guest availability and weather conditions allow, the tour continues with a guided walk through the vineyards “rebuilt” on the recent 1879 lava flow, which destroyed much of Passopisciaro’s vineyards. Here, we illustrate the characteristics of volcanic wines and the challenges of cultivating vineyards on volcanic soils.

At the end of the tour, we return to the living area to begin a tasting of five wines, showcasing the various shades of Etna wines. Wines included in the tasting:

- Bollenere Etna DOC Metodo Classico, Extra Brut, 48 months on the lees
- Petralava, Etna DOC Bianco
- Petralava, Etna DOC Rosato
- Petralava, Etna DOC Rosso
- Koinè, Etna DOC Riserva

The tasting is accompanied by homemade bread with extra virgin olive oil, a platter of cold cuts and cheeses, seasonal vegetables, typical appetizers, and a second course with a side dish.
