Cantina e Vini

The Monchiero vineyard estate can look back on a carefully considered, purposeful and gradual development. Its history is based on the gold der Langa, wine, and the Monchiero family from La Morra. The brothers Remo and Maggiorino Monchiero embarked on their wine journey in the 50s. First they only sold grapes, and then came the desire to make wine themselves. And so the journey continued, until in the 70s the wine was drawn into bottles and placed on the market: the "gold" of the Langa - Barolo for abroad (USA), the young wines for Italy. Vittorio Monchiero, son of Maggiorino, graduated from the college of viticulture in Alba and gradually became more involved in the concern which had been expanded by his father and uncle. After marrying his wife Daniela he took over the wine cellar and marketing, travelled and attended trade fairs throughout the world. Tradition and innovation left their mark; production grew, not least thanks to the acquisition of choice land.

The efforts of one year – from working the soil, the vines, from the grape to the wine – are rewarded when the "nectar of the gods" emerges from the grape and is heated under the watchful gaze of the expert Vittorio in the fermentation tanks in order to underscore the aroma, and then allowed to come to rest in the large vats of Slovenian oak, in which the Barolo and the Barbera absorb the wood's aromas. Each wine is accompanied by techniques ideally suited to it. Tradition plays a major part, especially in the production of the cru (Italian name: "sottozone" or "menzione"). In the quiet and the darkness, under the required temperatures, the wine matures until it can finally be decanted into bottles and prepared for sale and tasting, something the Monchiero vineyard estate conducts on the hills of the village of Castiglione Falletto with a panoramic view of the Langhe.
