About Winery and Wines

The Araldica cooperative now comprises 200 members who tend to around 900 hectares of vines. As well as traditional and native varietals such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Cortese, Arneis and Moscato we also grow the less common Brachetto and Freisa alongside more cosmopolitan, renowned grapes as Merlot, Cabernet and Chardonnay. Our vineyards are situated in the major areas of the Langhe, Monferrato, Roero and in Gavi. You can find out more about these regions of Piemonte in the section on Major Viticultural Zones The oldest part of the winery was built in 1954 as the Cantina Sociale di Castel Boglione, where locally produced wine was stored in cement tanks. In the 1960's and 70's work was carried out to begin replacing the cement tanks with stainless steel and wood storage vessels. In 1969 the ageing cellar was built and in 1970 the winery was renamed to Antica Contea di Castelvero, after a Count who used to live on the hill near Castel Boglione. By 1985 all the old cement storage had been replaced with stainless steel tanks and wooden botti and barrels. At present, all the grapes used in the production of Araldica wines are received at Castelvero and the crushing, pressing, winemaking and ageing facilities are all located here.
