About Winery and Wines
They were warriors who participated in the Trojan War under the command of Helephinor, their leader. In his epic poem The Iliad, Homer refers to the Avantes as follows:
“Brave Avantes, inhabitants of Euboea, coming from Chalkis and Eretria, as well as grape-producing Istiea and Kirinthos by the sea, and even from the heights of Dion, Karistos, and Stira, all were commanded by Helephinor, fearless in battle, their strong leader. Swift, long-haired warriors carrying long spears, always ready to attack and defeat the enemy. Forty black ships were at sea awaiting them.”
Iliad – Rhapsody B’ (verses 494–590)
The Lilantium plain was inhabited by the Hippovotes — wealthy landowners who possessed the famous Lilantium horses, which later inspired the emblem of the Estate.
Today, Avantis Estate is a boutique winery distinguished by numerous international awards. It is managed by dedicated professionals who uphold true values. Quality, the cultivation of both ancient and modern grape varieties, and research into the potential of the terroir are among their main objectives. Wine production is their sole focus, driven by a shared passion and a vision to create a truly great wine from Euboea.
After the grapes are delivered, they are pressed in a pneumatic press that is fully enclosed and continuously cooled, allowing for optimal and gentle skin contact. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for both white and red wines, and the winery is also equipped with a Ganimede fermentation system.
The bottling line includes a bottle rinser, a vacuum filler with nitrogen injection, a corker, a capsuler, and a labeller. The estate also features a cellar where wines are aged as well as a dedicated wine tasting room.
Avantis Estate recently obtained the HACCP certification, which ensures continuous quality control of the product at every stage — from the vineyard to the consumer’s table.
