We had a wonderful few hours here....

We had a wonderful few hours here. We were a group of four and had arrived early for the tour so decided to enjoy a cup of tea and bacon sandwich in the cafe. The staff were extremely friendly and the food delicious. We then had a tour round and were given interesting facts about the house and gardens. We then were shown some of the vinyard and were told the history of wine making in England. The wine tasting was taken in the lovely sunny gardens, the wines were delicious and the talk very knowledgeable. We all learnt something new. A lovely way to spend a few hours.

About Winery and Wines

Broadfield Court is set amongst a 1000 acre farming estate in the heart of Herefordshire. Along with the Cafe, Vineyard and Gardens, we also farm a dairy heard of approximately 300 cattle and grow a variety of cereals. Under Mark’s and Alex’s ownership, Broadfield Court has acquired a reputation as a top class venue ideally equipped for weddings, corporate events, private and public functions, outdoor activities and sporting and cultural entertainment. With one of the UK’s most mature vineyards, we are home to wines which are available for tasting and sale in our shop or by mail order. The Broadfield Court team is committed to providing the very best service to ensure that no visitor leaves without wanting to return.

Our Vineyard, the most established in Herefordshire, is over forty years old having been planted in 1971 by Mark’s father, Keith James, who had learned his love of viticulture during the war in the 1940’s. Keith had been taken prisoner but managed to escape and work his way down the Italian countryside to meet the allied forces in Southern Italy. Owing to his natural olive skin tan, he passed as a native and found work on Italian vineyards. Finally when he joined up with his fellow soldiers, Keith then resumed his part in the war during the Normandy landings before eventually entering Germany; his tale is truly inspirational. Following the wars conclusion Keith always harboured the dream of growing his own vines and it was at Broadfield, with her many south-facing slopes, that he chose to do this As our Viticulturist, Johnny has the task of watching over our vines and ensuring that we maintain the high quality wine we have produced since Keith James started our journey in 1971. In that time he has increased the stock of vines in our experimental polytunnel, created our ‘Adopt a Vine Scheme’, and designed new signs and information for the vines, all whilst staying on top of the day-to-day maintenance that each individual vine requires.
