castello di Torre in pietra
About the Winery
Castello di Torre in Pietra has been producing wine since the 1500s, when its former owner was Pope Sixtus V, also known as Pope Peretti, who lived in the castle behind the winery.
Today, the estate produces wines using modern techniques and is certified organic. The portfolio includes 11 different wines — whites, rosés, reds, and a sparkling wine — made from both international and indigenous grape varieties.
Within the historic cellar, where the Pope once stored his wines, the estate also hosts a restaurant called Osteria dell’Elefante. Here, guests can enjoy traditional cuisine from the Lazio region. The winery organizes guided tastings with a sommelier, cooking classes with the chef, team-building events, as well as lunches and dinners.
Guided visits of the winery are also available, led by the estate’s oenologist.
About the Wines
Our wines are certified organic. The estate produces six white wines made from indigenous grape varieties such as Cesanese, Fiano, and Vermentino.
The vineyards are located close to the sea, allowing the vines to benefit from the sea breeze and the unique characteristics of sandy soils. As a result, the wines are mineral, savory, and well-balanced in acidity.
Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks and concrete vats, with oak barrels used for aging when required.
