Good People and Even Better Wine
Had the gourmet experience and it was completely worth it. We bought a couple bottles as well. If you love red wine, the San Leone is the best.
They were also very quick at answering emails, which is always a plus

Excellent guide!
The food was good.
The guide took us for a quick tour which was very interesting and informative. Thank you for a nice visit.
Why did I give the tasting only three out of five? We couldn’t compare with prior tasted wines and the glasses needed a better wash. (We had to change some before the tasting).
Thank you

About Winery and Wines
The de Renzis Sonnino family has been living in the rooms of the Castello di Montespertoli since the beginning of the nineteenth century when it was purchased by Isacco. It was the home of the great statesman Sidney Sonnino during the years of his government. In 1987 the arrival of Baron Alessandro and Baroness Caterina de Renzis Sonnino, with their children Virginia and Leone, marked the start of a new phase in the life of the Castle. Conservative renovation work, a commitment to the protection of the historic-cultural heritage and the revival of the winegrowing activity have made the Castello Sonnino one of the most interesting sites and one of the finest producers in Florentine Chianti.King Umberto I, Vittorio Emanuele III, D'Annunzio and Giolitti were just some of the illustrious guests who stayed at Castello Sonnino in the early years of the twentieth century. The Castello di Montespertoli is located in a strategic position, only 20 km from Florence, on the road for Volterra, Certaldo and San Gimignano, and within easy reach of Pisa and Siena. It was in fact originally a customs post between Florentine Chianti and that of Siena. Composed of a number of architectural structures, the oldest parts are the thirteenth-century Tower and chapel. Over the centuries the Castle passed hands between a number of powerful local families until it was purchased by Isacco Sonnino in the nineteenth century. It is now a Historic Dwelling and home to Baron Alessandro and Baroness Caterina de Renzis Sonnino. It conserves precious evidence of the role played by the family during the period of the birth of the Kingdom of Italy.
The Castello Sonnino produces wine guided by the philosophy of the great “Chateaux”, choosing to work only with the grapes grown in its own vineyards, which extend over more than 40 hectares. The Sonnino wines have oodles of personality and character, fruit of the particular features of a terroir which since 1997 has been endowed with the specific denomination of Chianti Montespertoli D.O.C.G, the smallest of the Chianti denominations. The arrival of Baron Alessandro de Renzis Sonnino in 1987 opened up new horizons: the traditional Chianti grape varieties of Sangiovese and Canaiolo were joined by Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.
