SABATO 12 APRILE

About Winery and Wines
Castello Sonnino, located in the heart of Tuscany, has been the residence of the de Renzis Sonnino family since the early 19th century.
The historic estate, including a 13th-century tower and chapel, is steeped in cultural heritage. This historic estate, once a customs post between Florentine and Sienese Chianti, has hosted notable figures like King Umberto I and Sidney Sonnino, the great statesman. Composed of several architectural structures, the oldest parts are the thirteenth-century Tower and chapel. Over the centuries the Castle passed hands between many powerful local families until it was purchased by Isacco Sonnino in the nineteenth century. Today, under the care of Baron Alessandro and Baroness Caterina de Renzis Sonnino, the castle has undergone meticulous restoration, preserving its rich history while reviving its winegrowing tradition.
The Castello Sonnino is located in a strategic position, only 20 km from Florence, on the road for Volterra, Certaldo and San Gimignano, and within easy reach of Pisa and Siena. It stands as one of the finest producers in Florentine Chianti, offering visitors a unique blend of history, culture, and exceptional wines.
Castello Sonnino crafts its wines with a philosophy akin to the great “Chateaux,” exclusively using grapes from its own vineyards, which span over 40 hectares. These vineyards, located in the Chianti Montespertoli DOCG — the smallest of the Chianti denominations — produce wines with distinctive personality and character, reflecting the unique terroir. Since Baron Alessandro de Renzis Sonnino took over in 1987, the winery has expanded beyond traditional Chianti varieties like Sangiovese and Canaiolo, introducing Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec to create a diverse and expressive wine portfolio.
