Frome Valley Vineyard
About the Winery
Frome Valley Vineyard produces award-winning still and sparkling wines, cider, and brandy, and welcomes visitors to its tours and tastings from April to September. The family-run vineyard is set amongst the hop yards and cider orchards of Herefordshire, tucked into a curve of the River Frome just by Bromyard.
The vineyard was established in the early 1990s, one of the first “new wave” of English vineyards and one of the earliest in Herefordshire. Frome Valley Vineyard's wines feature heritage grape varieties from what are now beautifully mature vines!
Frome Valley Vineyard runs as sustainably as possible focusing on soil health. They believe that healthy soil grows healthy vines, so they are currently experimenting with biochar, a very pure form of charcoal. They are also seeing if wormcast tea can help keep the foliage healthy.
About the Wines
Frome Valley Vineyard was planted in the early 1990s with what are now "heritage varieties". The estate produces single-varietal still wines from Bacchus, Madeleine Angevine, Huxelrebe, Reichensteiner, and Pinot Noir and one or two blends. They also offer sparkling wines produced from a blend of Pinot Noir and Seyval Blanc. And in some years they distill the grapes into brandy. Over the years, the estate has won many awards in the English wine scene.
