About Winery and Wines

With love and inherited knowledge in viticulture and the production of fine wines, the Markou brothers continuing the family tradition of 150 years , founded in 1983 a contemporary wine making unit in Peania, Attica, a region known since " forever " for the making of wine and of the traditional Attican retsina (wine perfumed with pine resin). Today the 4th generation has caught up with them. Since a younger brew of wine producers, with their specialized knowledge and the freshness of their youth, they have already deposited their first tokens of personal dedication and inspiration uniquely combined with the experience of their fathers. The Markou family’s winery makes the best of the production of 10 hectares of privately owned vineyards in Attica and another 10 hectares in Nemea of the Peloponese peninsula; a great part of which is currently organically cultivated. This production is supplemented with grapes of fine viticulturists whose work the winery guides accordingly and with whom the Markou Brothers sustain long and steady collaborations. Namely, the grape varieties cultivated are Savatianno (indigenous of Attika), Agiorgitiko (indigenous of Nemea), Assyrtiko, Athiri, Moschofilero. Moschato, Malagouzia, the French Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and the Italian Trebbiano. The Markou Vineyards Winery also keeps its doors wide open to all of those friends who desire to get more intimately acquainted with the experience of wine making. Moreover, the winery keeps its own little wine shop on its premises, where wine tastings take place on demand and where the winery’s fine wines can be bought in superbly amicable prices.
