Fantastic relaxed winery hospitality

Big thanks to the folks at Quinta da Portela who were both friendly and knowledgeable. We were walked through the onsite museum and learned about the multi-generation history of this winery; interesting to see artifacts of the wine business and how equipment has changed across the decades. The great pleasure of our visit was a wonderfully relaxed and leisurely seated tour of their sparkling, still and fortified wines as well as their olive oil. These were deftly accompanied by delicious local food products both savoury and sweet on their hilltop outdoor patio. Highly recommended!
Go visit!

Wine tasting

We were at a wine tasting experience in August, and it was amazing. The lady who guided us was very friendly, funny, and her knowledge about the winery and Port wine was outstanding. The winery itself is beautiful. We had the opportunity to try six different types of wine (with snacks). I strongly recommend this place and the tour. We even bought a bottle to remember this experience.

About Winery and Wines

With over 200 years of history, Quinta da Portela de Baixo is located in the Douro region in the monumental city of Lamego. It is a family property with 15 hectares of vineyards, traditional granite buildings, open views, and beautiful gardens.

The visit and wine tasting are a relaxed experience, with a traditional Douro atmosphere and welcoming staff.

The wines on offer come from Quinta da Portela and Quinta da Soveral.

From Quinta da Portela de Baixo, at an altitude of over 500 metres and with granite soil, comes the sparkling Pinot Noir and white wines made from the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Arinto, Viosinho and Rabigato grape varieties.

From Quinta da Soveral, which starts at an altitude of 300 metres and extends down to the river, comes the Reserva red wine made from the Touriga Nacional and Sousão grape varieties (Gold Medal CMB 2024) and the Port wines, with special emphasis on the Vintage Port.
