Quinta da Torre - Anselmo Mendes

The acquisition of Quinta da Torre was born from a dream of Anselmo Mendes, who harvested this land since he was a child and believed that this was the terroir of excellence for Alvarinho.

This estate is now a space dedicated to Wine Tourism, which is the perfect starting point for an immersive experience in the history of the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço and the idyllic stage to discover the wines produced under the mastery of Anselmo Mendes, “Mr. Alvarinho”. Here you will discover a house that is almost 600 years old, granaries made in wood and stone dating back to the 17th century and ancient olive trees. You can visit the Alvarinho Experiments Center, a wine cellar from where wines were shipped to England and Northern Europe, in the 16th century,  and a rare “Garden” of White Grape Varieties from around the world. This is the ideal setting to enjoy a tasting of unique wines, full of identity and authenticity, surrounded by these 50 hectares (123 acres) of vineyards.

Anselmo Mendes is renowned for working with the Alvarinho grape with depth and precision, exploring different soils, altitudes, and winemaking techniques to reveal its full potential. Intelligent use of barrel fermentation, bâtonnage, and extended ageing on fine lees to craft wines with volume, texture, and ageing potential. A strong technical approach combined with great respect for the identity of each grape variety and its terroir. Innovation through skin-contact wines and small-scale experimental projects that push the boundaries of traditional winemaking.
