About Winery and Wines

The S.A.T. Bodegas Noroeste de La Palma was created in 1998, as a result of the effort and love for the vineyard of a small group of 50 vine growers of the northwest region of the island. In 1999 it started to commercialize its wines as belonging to La Palma D.O. (La Palma Appellation of Origin), under the name of Vega Norte. From that moment, the process of grape vine recovery and improvement of its cultivation techniques has never been stopped. At present, we are a family of more than 240 vine growers who with our effort, care and respect to the environment, work hard to produce Vega Norte wines. These wines are of the highest quality and, moreover, faithfully reflect the idyllic scenery, the favorable climate and the ancient traditions of the northwest region of the island of La Palma.

Ancestral and unique in the world grape varieties, such as Listán Blanco, Albillo Criollo, Negramoll or Listán Prieto provide our wines with exceptional qualities. Most of our vineyards are situated in the northwest region of the Island of La Palma, in the municipalities of Tijarafe, Puntagorda and Garafía. They grow on evolved volcanic and heterogeneous soils, which are generally sandy and clayish. Due to its location at 1000 meters of altitude, the predominant climate is continental, which is characterized by a significant thermal variation between day and night. This fact means a very slow process of ripening and, as a result, perfectly balanced wines. Its orientation to the northwest bordering deep ravines forms the production zone characterized by big slopes, where the red wine varieties occupy the sunny side, whereas the white wine ones are on the shadowy side. Our pruning system is the traditional one with a very low percentage of mechanization of the processes, being the wise hand of the vine grower essential to obtain the grapes of high quality for our Vega Norte wines.
