Lovely picnic in the vineyard
The location itself was stunning: a charming little arbor, cozy sun loungers under an old oak tree, and a breathtaking view over the Chianti countryside. Everything was perfectly organized and prepared – we didn’t have to worry about a thing and could just relax and enjoy.
A big thank you to our guide Cristian for his warm hospitality and the fantastic wine tasting at the end. A thoroughly delightful experience that we can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone!

Nice experience
The bottle of wine was very good, we enjoyed the little snacks. Thank you !
I was expecting maybe some cheese or more local tuscan products for the picnic, as it pairs well with wine, as I've seen at other wineyards offering this picnic.

Reply from Tenuta Campomaggio
Thank you for your kind reply. We are working on the location right in the vineyard and as soon as it's ready we will welcome you there. Thank you for your comments, we will try to find the solution to include more cheese, which is always quite hard to do due to the hot weather in summer. First, we need to be sure that the products don't go bad.
Look forward to seeing you again!

About Winery and Wines
Tenuta Campomaggio is situated in the Municipality of Radda in Chianti (Siena), atop a hill where the village of Campomaggio and its 18th-century manor house stand proudly. This area, renowned worldwide for Chianti Classico, is celebrated for its exceptional wine-producing conditions.
Under the leadership of Cecilia and Tommaso Castellani, the estate has embraced a fresh perspective, innovative approach, and determined attitude. Since 2016, they have conducted a thorough evaluation of the estate's land and implemented plot-specific vinification methods. This intricate process has unveiled the estate's considerable potential, positioning it to showcase the true greatness of its terroir. Additionally, the Castellanis have expanded their enological consultancy and are undertaking a cellar renovation.
The historic vineyards, originally spanning just over 25 hectares, have been progressively replanted since the Castellani family acquired the property in 1990. New vineyards have been added over the years, increasing the total vineyard area to 32 hectares. A significant planting of Sangiovese, totaling 3.5 hectares, was completed in spring 2021.
The vineyards lie at altitudes ranging from 280 to 480 meters above sea level. The soil, a medium-textured, chalky-clay mix rich in rock fragments (galestro and alberese), provides excellent drainage and water retention, allowing vines to develop deep roots. The cooler temperatures, especially in spring, slow vegetative growth, resulting in smaller, more concentrated bunches that ripen slowly. The significant temperature fluctuations during summer, particularly at higher elevations (300-350 meters), enhance grape ripening, improving phenolic content and aromatic qualities.
The estate’s primary grape variety is Sangiovese, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
The historic vineyards of Tenuta Campomaggio, which were just over 25 hectares, have all been progressively replaced since 1990 when the property was taken over by the Castellani family. Over the years, new vineyards have been purchased, bringing the total vineyard area to 32 hectares. The main grape variety at Tenuta Campomaggio is Sangiovese, which represents 85% of the total production, while the remaining 15% is made up of Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The produced wines include:
- Chianti Classico DOCG: This wine presents a bright ruby red color with a nose offering fresh black cherries and subtle hints of small red fruits, violet, and balsamic notes. On the palate, it is characterized by excellent acidity and a savory finish. The young tannins are well-integrated, making the wine agile and prolonged. It is enjoyable immediately and has the potential for medium-long aging.
- Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG: Deep ruby red, this Riserva features tertiary hints of chocolate, sweet spices, and cloves, with notes of blood orange and plum. Light earthy and inky hints add complexity. The palate is generous and deep with well-balanced acidity and savory characteristics. The young, crunchy tannins suggest potential for further development. The wine concludes with a fresh and elegant balsamic aftertaste.
- Chianti Classico Riserva Santa Teresa DOCG: This Riserva is characterized by a deep, intense ruby red color. Aromas of berries and mint are complemented by floral notes of rose and spicy hints of cloves. On the palate, it is wide and deep with excellent gustatory expression. The young, vibrant tannins are well-integrated, and the pronounced acidity provides a fresh and elegant tasting experience. The finish is persistent and refined.
