The property is beautiful, and I'd definitely recommend doing a picnic (bring your own food, buy the wine) along the creek near the entrance. But the wines are mostly just okay. I'm confused why they try to mimic European wines instead of embracing characteristics native to Virginia. In any event, I had a good time. And the nobiolo was good.

Loved the atmosphere and the people!
Great to walk into an open winery with a band playing and find tables in the Vineyard!
I was not impressed with the dog on the tasting bar. Small dogs still need to be off tbe bar.

The whites were better than the reds, but it was nice to try some very Italian style blends in VA. Location is beautiful with great setting for kids. Still we left empty handed as the wines did not quite fit our palates. And the tasting price ($11) felt a bit too expensive for the quality.

About Winery and Wines

Holli and John Todhunter are passionate about life, love, wine and Italy! After years of study, research, and planning Three Fox Vineyards® was born in 2002. Their love of Italian wine and food has taken the Todhunters on many trips to the various regions of Italy to learn how their wines are made. Southern France, with it's similar and relaxed feel has also called to them. This Italian focus – with a bit of the south of France thrown in – led them to plant the Italian varietals Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, and Pinot Grigio, as well as Viognier, the main white wine grape of the Rhone Valley. On estate they also grow Cabernet Franc and Merlot, both of which are grown in many parts of Italy and France. Chardonnay, and Chambourcin are sourced from area growers. In a very Italian tradition, all of the wines have “fanciful” names, most in Italian with one good French one (Alouette for the Cabernet Franc) thrown in. The vineyards now cover 15 acres on site. Eventually, a case production goal of 5000 per year is targeted.
