Sobre la bodega y los vinos

The Pieropan winery was founded in 1880 by Leonildo Pieropan and it achieved national and international success between the 1970s and 1980s thanks to his grandson namesake Leonildo, ''the Soave Classico Pioneer''.
Today the winery is led by the family’s 4th generation: Andrea and Dario who are sons of Leonildo and his wife Teresita.
With an extension of 75 hectares, 55 in the Soave territory and 20 in Valpolicella, the company produces about 750.000-800.000 bottles per year of which about 65% is exported to 70 countries worldwide.
Pieropan’s wines are produced in three locations:
- The historic winery inside Palazzo Pullici Pieropan in the heart of Soave, where all stages of production have been carried out until 2018, now dedicated to the drying of grapes;
- The Valpolicella winery of Villa Cipolla Pieropan in Tregnago, dedicated to red wines production;
- Finally, as the operating heart, the brand-new underground winery dedicated to Leonildo Pieropan. This is a modern, functional and innovative building that covers about 10.000 square meters of land,  located on the slopes of a large hilly amphitheater, in Soave, in the historical area for winegrowing, at the center of Pieropan’s production areas. Thanks to the choice of an underground construction, the sustainable project gave birth to an architecture strongly integrated in the surrounding environment.

‘A Family History’
Over the years the company has had a constant development without ever losing its identity, made of tradition and authenticity with a focus on innovation that has made wines a timeless expression, beyond temporary trends.
A century after its foundation in the 1880s, the company was revolutionized by the founder’s grandson, Leonildo Pieropan, thanks to his unique style and innate vocation for winemaking. Over the years he became a pioneer and the point of reference for other Soave producers. His determination was fundamental in his project on quality and authenticity that put the vineyard at its center.
Leonildo's idea was simple but at the same time revolutionary: to enhance the individual vineyards and give the wines an identity based on the relationship between variety, soil and climate and human work. This has led to the creation of two symbolic wines of Italian enology, "Vigneto Calvarino" in 1971, the first Italian white single vineyard and "Vigneto La Rocca" in 1978. These two wines are the expressions of the diversity and versatility of the two soils present in the area: basalt of volcanic origin in the Calvarino, limestone of marine origin in the Rocca. The strong link with the territory leads Leonildo to make important choices also for the agronomic management of the vineyard, eliminating chemical weeding in 2002 and starting to convert all production to organic in 2008.
In a few years Leonildo became the best interpreter of Soave production and a point of reference for the national and international markets.
The fourth generation, represented by his sons Andrea and Dario both graduates in agriculture and enology, after the painful loss of their father in 2018, continue the family tradition in the vineyards near Soave with the same love and passion of their forefathers.

Soave Classico D.O.C
The freshest and youngest expression of Soave Classico that the Pieropan family offers on the market. A wine that comes exclusively from own-vineyards located in the Soave classico area and entirely from native varietals Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave.

Calvarino - Soave Classico D.O.C.
Calvarino is the first CRU from white grapes produced in Italy. The name derives from ‘Little Calvary’ referring to the difficulties in working the land and the distance from the historical winery.
The Calvarino Vineyard is located in the heart of the Soave Classico area and is the oldest family fund, purchased in the early years of the 1900s.
It is a blend of Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave, two native grapes. Thanks to the volcanic soils of our single vineyard, rich in basaltic tuffs, it is has an intense mineral hint and a refreshing palate.

La Rocca - Soave Classico D.O.C.
La Rocca, the second CRU of the winery (1978) is a different interpretation of Soave Classico. It is composed by 100% Garganega from a single vineyard, with a limestone soil, located on the Monte Rocchetta hill, behind to the Medieval Castle of Soave. The grapes are harvested slightly overripe at the end of October, often attacked by botrytis which adds complexity and structure to the wine. La Rocca, thanks also to the ageing in french oak tonneaux and slavonian barrels, is a smooth, rich and intense wine, a beautiful expression of what this grape and this territory can offer.

Le Colombare – Recioto di Soave D.O.C.G.
A sweet wine with a long tradition that takes its name from the “recie”( the “ears” in the local dialect) the sides and overripe parts of the Garganega grape, lovingly selected.
It is the most "loved" wine by the Pieropan family, which has been producing it following the traditional system for generations, drying the grapes on racks for more than 5 months and aging the wine for several years in oak and acacia barrels.

Ruberpan – Valpolicella Superiore D.O.C.
This Valpolicella Superiore combines finesse and character. Intense and concentrated, it is rich and deep to the nose, with concentrated aromas of red fruit, black cherry and blackberry. The palate is fresh and agile, with an enveloping tannic silkiness and pleasant drinkability.

Amarone della Valpolicella D.O.C.G.
Amarone is the symbol of Valpolicella and represents a new and exciting challenge for the Pieropan Winery. The wine was born from the desire to compete with the territory of Valpolicella, this adjacent territory to Soave, but so different and unique. It was also the wish of the family to realize their dream of an important red wine, rich and structured, but also elegant and fine, like all the wines of the Pieropan Family.
