Tenuta Pakravan Papi – a Tuscan familly winery

In the northern Maremma, in the hills of Riparbella (Pisa), lies Pakravan Papi, a wine estate that has followed its own path for over twenty years—no trends, no external protocols, just a deep connection between people, wine, and place.

The project was born from the shared vision of Enzo Papi, a native of nearby Vada and former top manager at Fiat, and Amineh Pakravan, an Iranian medievalist with a passion for Tuscany. The couple met in Florence in 1966 while volunteering during the Arno flood and later chose to build a life together in the Tuscan countryside.

They found their place in Ortacavoli, an isolated, untouched piece of land surrounded by forest. What began in the 1980s with a small vineyard of Sangiovese and Malvasia became a full estate of 20 hectares of vines and 80 hectares of woodland. The goal: to make wines with personality, elegance, and a strong sense of place.

Today, the second generation is fully involved in shaping the estate’s future:
– Chiara oversees hospitality and guest experiences.
– Francesca manages the estate’s restaurant 
– Leopoldo is responsible for the winemaking and strategic direction of the winery.

The estate grows Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Tuscan Malvasia, with a philosophy inspired by French winemaking. The vineyards are planted with deep care for terroir, thanks to agronomist Stefano Pinzauti, and winemaking is led by renowned oenologist Graziana Grassini.

The soils vary from marl-rich clays (great for Sangiovese and Cabernet), to volcanic gabbros (hosting Chardonnay and Merlot), to cooler sandy-clay zones ideal for Riesling. The varied microclimates, proximity to forest, and the absence of intensive agriculture give the wines freshness, complexity, and authenticity.

Pakravan Papi does not seek organic certification—its standards go beyond labels, guided instead by deep respect for nature and quality.

Serra de' Cocci – IGT Toscana Bianco
A pure Chardonnay inspired by French whites, fermented in barrique and aged 8 months on the lees. Grown on north-facing volcanic-clay soils, it’s rich in citrus and acacia notes, with depth and mineral elegance from bâtonnage.

Malvasia – IGT Toscana Bianco
A rare pure Malvasia Toscana, fermented at low temperatures to highlight its elegance. Floral and almond aromas meet bright citrus notes and a refreshing, structured palate.

Ribellante – IGT Toscana Bianco
A bold, unconventional white that blends Riesling, Chardonnay, and two types of Malvasia. Fresh and complex with grapefruit, acacia blossom, and fine salinity. A tribute to rebellion and individuality.

Cancellaia – IGT Toscana Rosso
A classic Bordeaux blend (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc) with a Mediterranean soul. From mineral-rich soils, it shows ripe fruit, green pepper, mint, and a fresh balsamic finish.

Gabbriccio – IGT Toscana Rosso
Pure Sangiovese Piccolo grown on volcanic clay soils (gabbro). Bright red fruit, spice from aging, and firm structure make this a fresh, age-worthy red.

Prunicce – IGT Toscana Rosso
Sangiovese meets Cabernet Sauvignon in a truly Tuscan Supertuscan. Vibrant cherry, plum, and wild berry notes lead to a smooth, full-bodied finish with light spice.

Campo del Pari – IGT Toscana Rosso
A hillside Merlot “clos” with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc. Soft, full, and fruit-driven, with violet, black cherry, and gentle balsamic nuances.
