The Archaeologist’s Route at Bodegas Toro Albalá
Here is what's in store for you
Step into the fascinating world of Bodegas Toro Albalá and embark on The Archaeologist’s Route, an extraordinary journey through wine, history, culture, and archaeology in the heart of Montilla-Moriles, Andalusia.
More than a winery visit, this experience invites you to travel through time as you explore one of Spain’s most unique wine estates, where centuries-old winemaking traditions coexist with an exceptional private archaeological collection gathered by the family over generations.
During the guided tour, you will visit some of the winery’s most emblematic spaces, including:
- The room where historic vintage bottles are preserved
- The artisans’ workshop
- The aging cellar (Nave de Crianza)
- The tasting room
- The private archaeological museum
One of the highlights of the experience is the magnificent Tasting Room, watched over by a remarkable 2nd-century AD statue of Bacchus, gifted to the winery by an English nobleman and close friend of Antonio Sánchez. The room also houses one of Spain’s most important private libraries dedicated to viticulture and oenology, featuring historical manuscripts, authentic documents from botanist Rojas Clemente, and antique winemaking and laboratory equipment.
Guests will also discover the unique Aerial Cellar (Bodega Aérea), home to one of the winery’s greatest treasures: the exceptionally old 1964 Palo Cortado, bearing the signatures of many distinguished visitors who have passed through the winery over the years.
The tour continues through the historic Founding Aging Cellar, where some of the estate’s most precious wines rest alongside the family’s impressive archaeological collection, creating a truly immersive cultural experience.
The visit concludes with a guided tasting of 3 outstanding wines and 2 exclusive traditionally crafted vinegars, allowing guests to appreciate the craftsmanship and heritage that have made Toro Albalá one of Andalusia’s most celebrated wineries.
Perfect for wine lovers, history enthusiasts, and cultural travelers, this experience offers a unique combination of wine tourism, archaeology, and heritage in a setting unlike any other.
