The Last Frontier – Exclusive Colares Wine Experience with Hélder Cunha from Sintra

Step into the timeless world of Colares with "The Last Frontier", an exclusive wine experience crafted by winemaker Hélder Cunha, one of the region’s most dedicated advocates. This soulful journey is designed for a small number of guests and offers a rare glimpse into one of the world’s most unique and historic DOC wine regions.

The experience begins at Casa Do Preto, Sintra’s iconic pastry shop, where guests are welcomed with an introduction to the tour and a tasting of traditional regional pastries. From there, the group is transferred to Fontanelas, where they’ll walk through centenary vineyards with ungrafted vines, some over 200 years old. As the tour unfolds, guests will discover the unique geology of the area, characterized by sandy soils that naturally resist phylloxera, and learn about the ancestral viticultural practices that define the Colares region.

Along the way, participants will be introduced to the region’s native grape varieties, such as Ramisco and Malvasia de Colares, and gain insight into their cultivation methods and historic significance. The journey continues with a stop at Praia da Aguda, where visitors can breathe the salty Atlantic air and truly feel the maritime influence that shapes the wines of Colares.

Next, the tour visits Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe, offering a moment of contemplation and panoramic views over the ocean. The final stop brings guests to a selected restaurant in Cascais or Sintra, where they will enjoy a guided tasting of five exceptional wines, including two from Colares. Led by a wine expert, the tasting is enriched with stories, winemaking insights, and local knowledge. Guests are welcome to stay and dine at the restaurant after the experience (meal not included).
