The Orcia Valley and the Montalcino's wineries

We’ll start our wine tour in the morning around 10am and will end around 7pm. Our expert food & wine driver will tell you about Val d'Orcia and Montalcino, its history, culture and above all its wonderful wines. The roads to reach Pienza, Castelo di Spedaletto and the various wineris around Montalcino are winding but the countryside is spectacular, so don't forget to bring your camera!

We’ll reach Pienza, for a free visito f the historical center of the city. This charming village is widely known as the "ideal" city of the Renaissance, the creation of the great humanist Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who became Pope Pius II. Piccolomini had the economic means and influence to turn his humble home village, Corsignano, in what he believed would be a utopian city, which was supposed to embody the principles and philosophy of the classical age and the great Italian Renaissance.

The project was designed by the architect Bernardo, called Rossellino, under the guidance of the great humanist Leon Battista Alberti. In just three years it was built a complex of beautiful and harmonious buildings: the Cathedral, the papal residence or Palazzo Piccolomini, the City, and the lovely central square.

After the visit of Pienza, we’ll reach the Spedaletto Castle, a beautiful fortified architectural complex, where we’ll meet the miller who will guide you on a journey through the cereal chain illustrating all the steps that lead from the fields to the table.

During the afternoon we’ll visit 2 of the most renowned wineries in Montalcino.The visit to the cellars begins (where possible) in the vineyard and continues in the cellar. Through the passionate story of the producer or a person of the wine expert staff you’ll get to know the production techniques of Brunello di Montalcino. The visit includes the explanation of the entire wine production process and ends with a wine tasting: Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino and other local products (Extra virgin olive oil, Chianti, IGT Toscana, Supertuscan, Merlot, Rosé) depends on the size of the company visited.
