Cantina Capellini
(Winery in Riomaggiore)

4.8 (5 Reviews)
Provides 1 wine tasting and winery visit from €60.00
Cantina Capellini is a family-run winery with a legacy of winemaking that spans seven generations. Located in the charming hilltop village of Volastra in the Cinque Terre, the winery is currently led by Luciano Capellini, who learned the art of winemaking from his father, Oreste, and his grandfather, Bernardo. Luciano is joined by his son, Mirco, who, despite being raised in Parma, has always considered this slice of the Ligurian coastline home, and Mirco’s wife, Laura. Volastra, where the Capellini family has always lived, is a village that has gracefully adapted to the influx of tourism while preserving its soul. It is a place where ancient farming and winemaking traditions remain central to its identity. The village offers breathtaking views—from the sky above to the sea below — and is surrounded by vineyards supported by legendary dry stone walls. This unique landscape, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and designated a National Park in 1999, provides the perfect backdrop for the Capellini family’s winemaking endeavors. At Cantina Capellini, wine is made with the same patience and dedication passed down through generations, blending traditional techniques with modern advancements in viticulture and winemaking. The winery has recently undergone a gradual digital transformation, introducing small but effective changes while staying true to its core values. A longstanding dream of creating a wine tasting space directly in the vineyards overlooking the sea has also been realized, offering a special place where travelers and wine enthusiasts can gather to enjoy and appreciate the family’s homegrown products.

The terraced land of Bargòn is on a hill on the back of Riomaggiore located at the end of the path that from Lavaccio leads to the litoranea road, the path than continues up to Madonna di Montenero and Telegrafo. Back in the 30’sRoberto’s, when Roberto’s father returned from the United States (where he had emigrated ) because of filossera, a fungus of the wines which killed all the plants, and in so doing disrupted the local economy. He bought the ruines and the land located in such a splendid position, sunny and with a wonderful breeze to grow grapes. For this reason Roberto is sometimes locally called “il figlio dell’americano” The son of the american.

We are the proud owners of a vineyard in one of the most beautiful part of Italy. The place we are referring to is “Costa de Sera”, a peculiar tract of the coast-line with a special microclimate and steep slopes dominating the small bay of Canneto (part of the 5 Lands protected area). The will to give life back again to the “Garden of Litàn”, as grandfather used to call it, spurred us in the year 2000 to begin our adventure recovering and establishing the family vineyards that had lied abandoned for many years. With great passion, dedication, and hard work we finally opened our wine factory in 2006 and, in honour to our grandfather Giulio, we named it “Cantine Litàn”, (Litàn cellars).
