About Winery and Wines

Citterio Mattia Winery was born from the challenge of giving Valsassina its first official wine. The story of the territory’s recovery is told through each bottle. The winery produces wines just a stone’s throw from Lake Como, among the highest vineyards in Lombardy at 900 meters above sea level, using resistant PIWI varieties.

The land has been reclaimed in a small village with very few inhabitants but a unique microclimate. Production is limited, and all agricultural work is carried out by hand on steep slopes. These exclusive wines can only be enjoyed on-site, paired with refined local artisan products and traditional family recipes, in a quiet and exclusive setting with breathtaking views.

In a valley with no winemaking history and no traditional grape varieties, we chose to believe in something new and ambitious: resistant grape varieties (PIWI). These are recently developed varieties that are highly resistant to diseases, drastically reducing the need for plant protection treatments and allowing for the production of ecological, natural wines.

We produce two wines: IndoVino Bianco, made from Muscaris and Solaris grapes, and IndoVino Rosso, made from Cabernet Cortis and Monarch grapes. To best express the character of our territory, altitude, and these innovative varieties, our wines are aged exclusively in steel tanks and bottles, preserving their authentic connection to the land.

There is also a selection of older vintages and limited editions, offering unique expressions of this pioneering winemaking project.
