Azienda Agricola Balter

Winery in Trento DOC, Vallagarina

About the Winery

The Balter Winery is a family-run estate steeped in tradition and passion for the land, located in the picturesque region of Trentino. The story of Balter Winery began with Francesco Balter, whose love for the countryside and viticulture laid the foundation for what the winery is today. Initially, the Balter family focused on cultivating grapes to sell to other wineries, but in 1990, a significant change occurred. Francesco, along with his children Nicola and Barbara, decided to build their own wine cellar beneath the vineyards behind their historic 16th-century fortified borough, known as Castelliere. This decision marked the beginning of a new chapter for the Balter family, allowing them to produce wines that truly reflect the character and heritage of their land. Today, Nicola and his children, Giacomo and Clementina, oversee every aspect of the winery’s operations, from vine cultivation to winemaking, and from management to welcoming guests. The family’s dedication to quality and tradition is evident in every bottle they produce, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience the rich history and vibrant flavors of Trentino.

About the Wines

At Balter Winery, the meticulous care and attention to detail extend from the vineyards to the cellar, ensuring that every bottle is a true expression of the Trentino terroir. The family cultivates 10 hectares of vineyards, following sustainable practices to produce wines of exceptional quality. Their Trento DOC sparkling wines are crafted using the Classical Method, a process that captures the essence of the region’s cool climate and mineral-rich soils. These sparkling wines, with their fine bubbles and complex flavors, are a celebration of Trentino's winemaking traditions. The red wines of Balter are aged in barrique for periods ranging from 4 to 20 months, allowing them to develop rich, layered profiles with deep aromas and flavors. In contrast, their white wines are vinified in steel tanks to preserve their freshness, aromatic purity, and vibrant acidity. Each wine from Balter reflects the family’s commitment to excellence and their deep respect for the land, offering a taste of the Trentino region’s unique wine heritage.

Fabulous tasting
The personal attention, the English speaking guide made my visit exquisite. I bought two wines that are now safely home in Boston, US. I would recommend this beautiful historic property and their gracious hospitality to try gorgeous Trentodoc wines- both still and sparkling!

Super experience
The friendliness and expertise of the host made our visit truly special. Despite not being experts, we had the opportunity to learn about and understand the value of the Trentodoc production process. The wines are also spectacular. Recommended!
