Azienda Agricola ' La Pietra Di Tommasone'
About the Winery
La Pietra Di Tommasone is a testament to passion, dedication, and deep-rooted family tradition. Founded in 1870 on the island of Ischia, this winery reflects over 150 years of winemaking heritage passed down through generations. Antonio Monti revived the family’s legacy in 1999, restoring ancient cellars and replanting vineyards that had been tended by his ancestors. Situated in Lacco Ameno, Tommasone’s vineyards stretch across 12 hectares of terraced slopes, surrounded by volcanic soils that impart a unique character to their wines. The winery is deeply connected to the land, using sustainable practices and focusing on limited production to maintain the highest quality. Visitors to La Pietra Di Tommasone can experience Ischia’s winemaking history firsthand, from the family’s historical cellars to breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea, all while enjoying the hospitality of Lucia Monti, the current head of the winery.
About the Wines
La Pietra Di Tommasone is renowned for its exceptional wines, made from both native and international grape varieties. Their vineyards are planted with white varieties like Biancolella, Forastera, and Fiano, and reds including Piedirosso, Aglianico, and Guarnaccia. The volcanic soil, rich in phosphorus and potassium, combined with the Mediterranean climate, lends each wine a distinctive mineral character. The winery’s philosophy, “less is more,” emphasizes small-batch production, with meticulous hand-harvesting and selection of grapes. Highlights include their award-winning Tenuta Monte Zunta, a Piedirosso-based cru, and Ischia Biancolella DOC, a vibrant white wine reflecting the island’s terroir. Tommasone also pioneers unique projects like their Underwater Wine, a sparkling wine aged on the seabed of Casamicciola Terme.
