BARAFAKAS WINERY

Winery in Nemea, Corinthia

About the Winery

Nestled in the historic and fertile region of Nemea, the Barafakas Winery is a testament to the rich winemaking traditions passed down through generations of the Barafakas family. With a legacy rooted deeply in the land, this family-owned winery has transformed their ancestral vineyards into a beacon of quality and tradition. Christos Barafakas, driven by a lifelong dream, began his vinification journey in 2002, meticulously cultivating the family's 80 stremma estate in Nemea—one of Greece's most renowned PDO wine regions. Known for its unique microclimate, Nemea is the birthplace of the celebrated Agiorgitiko grape, which thrives in the area's exceptional terroir. Visitors to the Barafakas Winery are welcomed into a world where tradition meets passion, offering a genuine connection to the land and a glimpse into the heart of Greek winemaking.

About the Wines

At Barafakas Winery, the art of winemaking is more than a tradition; it is a passion for excellence that is reflected in every bottle. The star of the vineyard is Agiorgitiko, the iconic Greek variety that flourishes in Nemea's distinctive terroir, producing wines of remarkable depth and character. Alongside Agiorgitiko, the winery cultivates a selection of both Greek and international grape varieties, each carefully nurtured to express the unique qualities of the region. The result is a diverse portfolio of wines that embody the richness of Nemea and the dedication of the Barafakas family. From the vineyard to the cellar, each step of the winemaking process is carried out with meticulous care, ensuring that every wine tells the story of the land and the family's enduring commitment to quality. Whether you are a connoisseur or a wine lover, Barafakas Winery invites you to experience the harmonious balance of tradition and innovation in every glass.

Excellent wine
We really enjoyed our experience there. It’s informative and the wine was delicious. We had a lot of fun with our host that day and she was fun to banter with, but very knowledgeable. Of the two wineries we made it to, we were very happy with all the wine we tried from there. The snacks were very good as well. The rose was so unique and buttery from what we have in the states. We bought some to drink while we were in Greece, and the rose had to come home to share. Thank you!

One of our favotite in Nemea
As part of our wine tour in Nemea we booked a visit to Barafakas winery through winedering.com. It turned to be one of the best wineries we have visited. We had an excellent host and we met briefly with the owner Mr. Christos Barafakas, who comes from a family with a long wine-making tradition. He established the current winery about 20 years ago and it is now one of the middle-sized wine makers in Nemea. They have an impressive variety of labels, thus a comprehensive degustation is recommended. From the whites we liked the Malagousia and the very good Chardonnay, which were followed by syrprisingly good roses (the Three Witches!!). And, of course, great Agiorgitiko reds. The tasting was a real pleasure and we had a very informative doiscussion (part of our small group were winemakers themselves). Thus, altogether it was a wonderful experince which we recommend to anuyne who tours the region.
Keep doing the excellent work!

Amazing wine tasting!
A superb tasting experience! Remarkable wines, presented with passion and simplicity. We leave with the impression of having discovered a true story rather than just a simple selection of labels. Each wine was highlighted with delicacy and depth. Thank you for this special moment… and a very special dedication to Élisabeth for her generous welcome and her infectious passion.
