Bodega Palacio de Lerma

Winery in Arlanza, Castilla y Leòn

About the Winery

Bodegas Palacio de Lerma is the result of an entire family's winemaking tradition spanning over a century. The care of the vines, the treading of the grapes, the racking, and the loving care involved in the winemaking process have been passed down from grandparents to grandchildren. Manager and owner Ramiro García Arnáiz, the grandson of artisanal winemakers, continues this work, combining technology and artistry in winemaking and aging.

Tasting a Palacio de Lerma wine is savoring culture, nature, and art. It is experiencing the care that goes into its production. Starting with monitoring in the vineyard, we harvest the fruit into boxes and select it bunch by bunch on the sorting table. We destem at a slow speed and carefully transfer the grapes to the tanks. We macerate the musts and skins in our exclusive "pipeage" tank. The fermentation is carried out without agitation and at constant temperature control. We gently transfer the wine to the aging room using peristaltic pumping, without oxidation, without shock, and without impact. There it rests for months in new French and American oak barrels. We produce wines with a high level of color and aroma extraction, powerful yet balanced and delicate on the palate. We present you with a well-balanced and elegant wine. From the bottle, label, cork, and capsule to packaging and distribution, we offer quality, design, and service.

About the Wines

“Forgotten Treasures” is the name we give to our vineyard restoration project. Through this project, we aim to restore ancestral vineyards that have been forgotten because their owners are unable or lack descendants who can continue to work them. We take care of them and restore them with respect for sustainability, nurturing them to produce the grapes we have always had. They are true treasures, as they often have different varieties of century-old vines, bush-formed vineyards with irregular lines, and very limited production.

From these vineyards, which are mostly located in production-limiting areas, high-altitude areas, areas surrounded by mountains and nature, we harvest the grapes to make our most radical wines, our Radikalwines, which are wines that aim to reflect the typical characteristics of the area in the most obvious and radical way. We produce micro-vinifications of plots and extreme vineyards (limiting areas), high-altitude vineyards, seeking radicality as an element of identity. I want my wines to taste like the extreme landscape they come from. I don't want ordinary wines that are drinkable for the majority. I want unusual, extraordinary wines for a minority.

Experience at Palacio de Lerma
4 of us friends went for the visit and it was an unforgettable experience. Ramiro conveys his passion for wine in a simple way that draws you into this art.
We had a great time and learned a lot about the whole winemaking process, how to differentiate all its nuances, and about Arlanza wine.
The experience of making your own wine was very fun and you put into practice the knowledge learned from Ramiro. The appetizer for the tasting was delicious, as were the wines, which we couldn't resist buying.
We're already looking forward to doing it again! and we recommend it 100%.
Highly recommended to do with family or with friends.
