Bodegas Castillo Viejo

About the Winery

Our family winery was founded in 1927 and has been passed down through generations of French Basque origin from the town of Hasparren. For nearly a century, we've dedicated ourselves to producing fine wines from Uruguay's most planted varieties, including Tannat, Marselan, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Situated on 54 hectares, our vineyards are meticulously cared for, with all grapes hand-harvested, often overnight, to ensure perfect ripeness. We are committed to crafting wines that embody the essence of our unique terroir, offering elegance, complexity, and a modern style. Open year-round, we welcome visitors to experience our rich history and passion for winemaking.

About the Wines

At our estate, we grow and hand-harvest 54 hectares of vineyards featuring Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier. In addition, we cultivate limited quantities of Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, and Marselan. Our wines are crafted to reflect the true character of our terroir, focusing on creating elegant and complex wines with a modern twist. Every aspect of our winemaking process, from hand-harvesting to careful aging, is designed to produce wines that are both distinctive and a true expression of Uruguay's viticultural potential.
