About Winery and Wines

n 1999, the Cantarelli family acquired a small, abandoned farm on the hills overlooking the city of Orvieto, once known as Podere Caiano. Over the years, the estate has been lovingly restored and expanded to cover 35 hectares, 20 of which are dedicated to vineyards. The original few rows of vines were replaced with new plantings starting in 2002, and after several years of experimenting with winemaking, Cantina Lapone was established in 2011. Named after the local area where the winery is located, Cantina Lapone is not just a winery but also a welcoming destination. The late 19th-century farmhouses on the estate were renovated to create a unique agritourism experience, where Piero and Ramona Cantarelli host friends and guests from all over the world. At Cantina Lapone, we strive to balance tradition with innovation, producing wines with respect for the environment and a deep connection to the land.

Cantina Lapone cultivates both international and native grape varieties, using the spalliera training system with double Guyot pruning. Our commitment to integrated agriculture ensures that we manage the ecosystem sustainably, preserving the land's natural integrity. Among our white grape varieties, we produce Chardonnay, Grechetto, Pinot Grigio, Malvasia Toscana, Procanico-Trebbiano Toscano, Riesling Aromatico, Sauvignon Blanc, Tocai Friulano, Verdicchio, and Viognier. For our red wines, we focus on Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Each of our wines reflects the unique terroir of Orvieto, offering a distinct expression of the land and its diverse varieties. Whether white or red, our wines embody our dedication to crafting high-quality, environmentally responsible products that respect both tradition and innovation.
