Cantina Monchieri

Cantina Monchieri, founded in 2008 by Gian Mario Monchieri and his wife Silvia, is situated in the Camonica Valley, at the foot of the Concarena mountain. The winery is guided by values of respect, protection, and enhancement of the land, which are deeply rooted in the family’s philosophy. The winery was designed to minimize its environmental impact, with the building almost entirely underground and built using local materials such as wood and stone. Additionally, the winery is self-sufficient in terms of energy and features a rainwater recycling system, further reflecting the Monchieri family’s commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.

The Camonica Valley, a region traditionally known for its wine production, was the ideal location for Gian Mario and Silvia to contribute to the revitalization and promotion of local viticulture. Their efforts have helped preserve the natural beauty and historical significance of the area, while also producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.

The vines at Cantina Monchieri include Merlot, Marzemino, and Chardonnay, planted in 2009 on the Orobic side of the middle Camonica Valley. The region's calcareous soil is ideal for vine cultivation, and the vineyard was expanded in 2012, now covering around three hectares. The Monchieri family restored an abandoned area for vine planting, revitalizing the land while maintaining a focus on sustainability and environmental protection.

The vineyard is positioned with a southeast exposure, at an altitude ranging from 368 to 450 meters above sea level. The winery itself is integrated into the sloping land, using local materials and designed to be nearly autonomous in energy and water supply.

Cantina Monchieri’s agronomic and oenological practices focus on sustainability while preserving the aromas and flavors unique to the local grape varieties. They blend tradition with modern winemaking techniques, producing both IGT Val Camonica red wines and Classic Method sparkling wines.

This careful balance of respect for tradition and environmental sustainability allows the Monchieri family to craft wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Camonica Valley.
