Reuniting with the history of Montegiove

Rate: 5 out of 5 9/1/25
Lorenzo and Rikke were knowledgeable, passionate and welcoming. We learned a lot about the history of the castle and about producing wine. The wine tasting was done in a nice setting with opportunities to ask questions. We bought 3 boxes of wine to take home

Semplicemente unica

Il posto è incantevole; il proprietario accogliente, simpatico e appassionato della sua terra e del suo lavoro.
I vini di pregio, qualcuno forse ancora da migliorare.

I would recommend this to anyone. It’s a beautiful place and Lorenzo was a lovely guy who clearly loves his wine and he has a right to, the wine was fabulous particularly the Elicius which tasted more like a €50 bottle of wine than the €22 he was charging! I will be putting in an order for a couple of cases soon!!

About Winery and Wines

Set atop a hill between Orvieto and Perugia, Castello di Montegiove is a historical estate dating back to the 12th century. The castle, rich with history and legends, has been owned by the Marquises Misciattelli since 1780. Surrounded by stunning Umbrian landscapes, the estate blends medieval architecture with centuries-old winemaking traditions. Today, the winery is part of the family’s commitment to preserving the region’s history and natural beauty, offering an authentic experience of Umbria’s cultural and winemaking heritage.

Castello di Montegiove produces high-quality red wines, relying on centuries of viticultural expertise. The vineyards, first referenced in 1292, are planted with Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Sagrantino, and other varietals, benefiting from the estate’s rich soils and ideal microclimates. Combining tradition with modern techniques, the winery’s focus on red varietals results in elegant wines that reflect the unique terroir of Montegiove, with a long history of crafting wines rooted in the Etruscan tradition.
