About Winery and Wines

The Catalano family involved in vineyards and wine for three generations: first grandfather's small property in the Spinasanta district, assigned by the agrarian reform in the 1950s, then his father Totò who dedicated himself to the cultivation of vines, expanding the borders about 4 hectares and planting Nero d'Avola, and now his son Rosario who, after studying biology and oenology, decided to gain experience in other companies (especially in the Cerasuolo di Vittoria area), combining tradition with innovation.

In the last years the company, under the guidance of Totò and Rosario, decided to plant new vineyards of various cultivars, in more suitable sites between Gela and Butera, in order to produce great wines in highest quality where, among the chalk quarries about 400 meters above the sea, another 6 hectares of vineyards have been planted.

Based on the experience gained, both in the production and commercial fields, the Catalano winemakers produce wines born from the effort, experience and love for their land.

In order to share the experience with guests, the Catalano winery opens the winery for visits and tastings. Some of the vineyards are located near the cellar, others, thanks to a trekking route, will be available for everyone wish to visit them. Our staff will be pleased to explain all about the journey from the berry to the bottle, the methodologies to obtain a product that is already in highest quality in the vine, and then thanks to the passion and knowledge of the Catalano family, finds the best technologies in the cellar, in order to discover in the bottle unique perfumes, aromas and organoleptic qualities of our area. We will tell you about the arrival of the grape crates in the cellar, the processing and transformation of them before transferring them to the fermentation silos, the refinement in stainless steel and in barriques and then, once the product is finished, the bottling. A journey that involves all the senses, from the sight of the gold or ruby colors of our wines, the typical aromas of a rich land, the persistence of taste on the palate and the tangibility, season after season, of what happens inside our cellar.
