Agustí Torelló Mata, born into a family of tailors and musicians, found his true passion in the world of cava at a young age. In 1953, he established the first wine analysis laboratory in the industry, becoming a pioneer in the internationalization of cava. By 1959, he had founded his own winery, which has since become a reference point for the highest standards in cava production. Located in the historic Cava region of Penedès, the winery is rooted in a tradition of excellence, with a focus on producing cavas that reflect the unique terroir of the Valls d’Anoia-Foix area. Over the years, Agustí Torelló Mata’s vision and dedication have earned him a prestigious reputation, with his iconic cava, KRIPTA, embodying the pinnacle of this legacy. Crafted from the best old vineyards of Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada, KRIPTA is a testament to the winemaker’s lifelong passion for excellence.

Agustí Torelló Mata is renowned for its production of cavas that celebrate the unique qualities of the Penedès region. The winery remains faithful to traditional autochthonous grape varieties—Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada for the white cavas, and Trepat for the rosé. These indigenous grapes, combined with the diverse soils of the Valls d’Anoia-Foix region, contribute to the singular identity of the wines. The flagship KRIPTA, a blend of Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada, undergoes a minimum of 5 years of aging under cork, resulting in a cava with exceptional complexity and elegance. With its distinctive amphora-shaped bottle and artwork by Rafael Bartolozzi, KRIPTA is considered one of the world’s great cavas.
