About Winery and Wines

Cavas Ferret carries a legacy of over 50 years, founded in 1941 by Ezequiel Ferret Olivella and his brother José Ferret, fulfilling their late father’s dream of creating a cava winery. Their father, a winemaker dedicated to crafting base wines for cava, was celebrated for his work — earning a Gold Medal in 1922 — and had studied at the Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking in Vilafranca del Penedès.

Ezequiel followed in his footsteps, pursuing winemaking studies at the same institute in the early 1940s before dedicating his life to innovation in viticulture and cava production. The original family winery, founded in 1907, still stands remarkably intact today.

The first decade of Cavas Ferret was marked by extraordinary determination. Ezequiel personally oversaw the manual excavation of underground cellars, 15 meters deep, expanding them bucket by bucket and reinforcing the vaulted structure with handmade bricks. These historic cellars became the heart of Cavas Ferret — a symbol of craftsmanship, dedication, and the enduring pursuit of excellence that continues to define the estate’s wines to this day.

At Cavas Ferret, passion for wine and cava drives a commitment to excellence in every bottle. The winery produces young and fruity white and rosé wines, red wines lightly aged in oak barrels, and Xarel·lo whites aged on lees for added depth and complexity.

Their range also includes distinctive red blends and an exceptional selection of cavas, aged from 18 months to the prestigious Ferret Cava Jeroboam (3 liters), which matures for an extraordinary 25 years in bottle. Each creation reflects craftsmanship, patience, and the heritage of generations devoted to perfecting the art of cava making.
