Caves Velhas
About the Winery
The history of Caves Velhas dates back to 1881, when João Camillo Alves began trading wines from the renowned Bucelas region, famous for its high-quality white wines. Originally established as Adegas Camillo Alves, S.A., the company grew steadily over the decades, driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a deep connection to Portuguese wine heritage.
In the mid-20th century, the founder’s descendants expanded the business and created the Caves Velhas brand, which quickly became one of the most important names in the Portuguese wine market. Today, Caves Velhas stands as a symbol of tradition, continuity, and evolution, preserving its historical roots while adapting to modern winemaking and global markets.
