Wonderful rosé picnic

Rate: 5 out of 5 8/1/25
We had a fabulous picnic lunch at Chateau L’Eperon with a beautiful bottle of light rosé. Perfectly hospitable hosts and much more intimate than the big growers.

About Winery and Wines

Château L'Éperon is a historic estate steeped in legend and tradition, located in the heart of Bordeaux. According to the legend, the estate was originally established in 1810 by the Duke of Chambord, who fell in love with the natural beauty of the area and chose it as the site for his hunting lodge. A passionate enthusiast of rooster fighting, the Duke named the estate "L'Éperon," after the spur on a rooster's leg—a fitting tribute to the rooster, the symbol of France. This emblematic rooster continues to adorn each bottle of wine produced at Château L'Éperon.

In recent years, a group of close friends and family members from different parts of the world came together with a shared passion for winemaking to revive and reimagine the château, blending its rich history with modern international expertise. Château L'Éperon now stands as a symbol of friendship, passion, and dedication, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore a place where tradition and innovation converge. We invite you to join us in experiencing the "PASSION THAT BRINGS FRIENDS TOGETHER" at Château L'Éperon.

At Château L'Éperon, our wines are crafted with meticulous care, reflecting the exceptional terroir of Bordeaux and the dedication of our winemaking team. Each bottle is a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, offering a true taste of the region's rich winemaking heritage.

L’ÉCLAT DU CHÂTEAU L’ÉPERON: This is the top red wine of the château, a modern Bordeaux-style blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Malbec. Grapes from the best plots are aged for 12 months in French oak, resulting in a deep ruby-red wine that is both harmonious and fresh. It boasts aromas of cherry, blackberry, pomegranate, and black currant, with subtle hints of roasted hazelnuts and vanilla. The palate is balanced and soft, with fine tannins and a long, silky aftertaste. Perfectly paired with côte de bœuf, lamb chops, and aged cheeses.

CHÂTEAU L’ÉPERON: The base red wine of the château is a traditional Bordeaux-style blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for six months in French oak barrels. This ruby-red wine is gastronomic and balanced, with aromas of red berries and fruits, complemented by light woody notes. Its structured taste features a silky texture, rounded tannins, and a fruity-spicy finish. Ideal for pairing with steak, lamb, and dishes with berry or cream sauces.

MADAME L’ÉPERON: The château's elegant rosé, a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, is harvested mechanically at night to preserve the grapes' freshness. The wine undergoes cold stabilization and aging on fine lees for one month. This rosé reveals delicate aromas of strawberries, redcurrant, and grenadine, with a complex and balanced palate and a refreshing finish. Best enjoyed with light summer snacks, seafood, grilled fish, and fresh salads.

CHÂTEAU L’ÉPERON White: A 100% Semillon white wine, this single vineyard wine is grown on limestone clay soils, with vines averaging 20 years of age. The wine is vinified in stainless steel vats and aged for three months on fine lees, with regular stirring to enhance its complexity. It offers vibrant aromas of mango, yellow apple, and citrus, making it a perfect match for white meat dishes with lemon sauce, fish, ceviche, and asparagus.

Each wine from Château L'Éperon is a testament to the estate's rich history, its commitment to quality, and the passion that unites us.
