About Winery and Wines

Anyone who knows Contesa is well aware that is not a Winery like others, but a direct testament of the unbreakable bond between our family and the grapevines, a connection which gave us an extraordinarily generous land. A touching story, during which the stubborn compromise refusal brought us to difficult choices and anguishing divisions, but still gave us endless gratification thanks to the knowledge of men and women that, over many generations, stubbornly guarded the idea of wine culture made of integrity, coherence and pride of their own roots.

Chi conosce Contesa sa bene che non si tratta di una cantina come tutte le altre, è la testimonianza diretta del legame indissolubile che lega la vita della nostra famiglia alle viti che ci ha donato una terra straordinariamente generosa. Una storia emozionante piena di infinite gratificazioni grazie alla sapienza di uomini e donne che generazione dopo generazione hanno testardamente custodito l’idea di una cultura enologica fatta d’integrità, coerenza e orgoglio per le proprie radici.

Laing on the fertile and flourishing lands of a territory that has always been suitable to viticulture, Collecorvino, our 124 vineyards acres between Pescara hills, are a priceless heritage that the Earth gave us to take care of with all our dedication, balance, and wisdom. We have always been winemakers and enologists, and for us, our vineyards mean something that goes beyond technical aspects and it is important to describe their excellent characteristics: South-East sun exposure with noticeable temperature variation between night and day, ideal seasonality, soils at 250 m.a.s.l. with mainly clayish composition and small calcareous percentage, integrated production which favours the soil balance and defence compared to phytosanitary products. The espalier Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Trebbiano vineyards are trained using the spurred cordon system; while reign of Pecorino grapes, the vineyard near the lake , at the lower part of the hill, is trained with Guyot system with a high density of plants per hectare and quite low yields in order to always ensure the best quality.

Adagiati lungo le terre fertili e rigogliose di un territorio da sempre vocato alla viticoltura come Collecorvino, i nostri 50 ettari di vigneti tra le colline pescaresi sono un patrimonio inestimabile che la terra ci ha donato affinché ce ne prendessimo cura con tutta la dedizione, l’equilibrio e la saggezza di cui siamo capaci. Nella filosofia Contesa “il vino si fa in vigna” e la cantina è il luogo in cui si conclude il percorso che dalla vendemmia all’affinamento in bottiglia si ripete anno dopo anno in un rituale che per noi è sacro. Nella cantina Contesa a trovare spazio è soprattutto una dimensione umana che si tinge di sincera convivialità e spontanea accoglienza, perché non siamo semplici imprenditori del vino, ma una famiglia in cui enologi e vignaioli costruiscono giorno dopo giorno il proprio futuro.
