Bella esperienza

About Winery and Wines
Contesa is more than just a winery; it is a living testament to the unbreakable bond between a family and its grapevines, a connection that has yielded an extraordinarily generous land. This story is one of deep commitment, marked by difficult choices and challenging divisions, but also by immense gratification. Over generations, men and women have fiercely guarded the philosophy of wine culture, rooted in integrity, coherence, and pride in their origins.
At Contesa, the belief that "wine is made in the vineyard" is central. The journey from grape harvest to bottling in the cellar is treated as a sacred ritual, requiring patience, as it is through time that Nature grants true masterpieces. This natural gift is then shaped by a winemaker's refined and time-honored practices, passed down through generations.
The wine cellars at Contesa house exceptional barriques and barrels made from the finest Slovenian oak, alongside innovative steel tanks that carefully regulate temperature, preserving the quality of the must and minimizing technological impact. Yet, equally important is the human element in the process, characterized by genuine conviviality and spontaneous hospitality. Contesa is not merely a business; it is a family of enologists dedicated to building a future, one day at a time.
Situated on the fertile lands of Collecorvino, where viticulture has thrived for generations, the 124 acres of vineyards between the Pescara hills are a priceless heritage entrusted to careful stewardship. These vineyards represent more than just technical excellence; they embody a deep connection to the land. With optimal southeast sun exposure and significant temperature variations between day and night, the vineyards benefit from ideal growing conditions. The soils, situated at 250 meters above sea level, are primarily clay with a small percentage of limestone, contributing to the unique character of the wines. The integrated production approach emphasizes soil balance and natural defense mechanisms over phytosanitary products.
The Contesa's vineyards are home to espalier-trained Montepulciano, Sangiovese, and Trebbiano, cultivated using the spurred cordon system. Meanwhile, the Pecorino vineyard, located near a lake at the lower part of the hill, is trained using the Guyot system. This vineyard boasts a high density of plants per hectare with intentionally low yields, ensuring that only the highest quality grapes are harvested. This meticulous care and dedication to viticulture result in wines that are a true reflection of the land’s richness and the winemaking tradition.
