About Winery and Wines

The great-great-grandfather, Giuseppe, started off the business, mainly working in the vineyards. Great grandfather, Fortunato, was the first to make small quantities of Recioto and Amarone. Grandfather Giuseppe and his son Bruno carried on the family business until 1998 when Bruno’s daughter Elena and son Federico founded Corte Rugolin. They introduced important innovations and know-how with the aim of obtaining an excellent product and offering it on the international market. The company took its name from the antique rural courtyard, which is also its seat, that dates back to the end of the 16th century. It is set in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area, with its ideal microclimate for the cultivation of vines, between Monti Lessini, the plains and Lake Garda. At present, Elena deals with the administrative and commercial side of the business while Federico looks after the vines and the wine production. They can count on the invaluable advice of their Enologist, Paolo Grigoli.

Our company has 12 hectares of vineyards, 5 of which are rented and 7 belonging to the family, in different areas of the various communes of the Valpolicella classica territory. The vineyards are situated on hilly areas with clayey-calcareous soil. The vines have been renewed over the last few years. Indigenous varieties that are being abandoned have been chosen as replacements trained on systems that reduce the quantity of bunches of grapes so as to increase the quality. Our cru are: Conca d’Oro: 2.50 hectares at a height of 400 m.a.s.l. in the hills of San Giorgio in the commune of Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella, cultivated in double rows. The vines are about 35 years old. Chevalier: 4 hectares at a height of 250 m.a.s.l., in the hills around Valgatara in the commune of Marano di Valpolicella, cultivated in the guyot fashion and rows. The vines are about 25 years old. Monte Danieli: 2.50 hectares at a height of 320 m.a.s.l. in the hills around Castelrotto di San Pietro in Cariano, cultivated in rows. The vines are about 50 years old.
