About Winery and Wines

Domaine Fritz is a family-run wine estate located in Sigolsheim, in the very heart of the Alsace wine region, along the famous Alsace Wine Route. Set in a beautifully restored former flour mill, the estate offers visitors an authentic setting that reflects both the history of the region and the deep-rooted passion of the Fritz family for winemaking and terroir.

The story of Domaine Fritz began in the 1950s, when Willy Fritz converted the old mill into a wine cellar and planted the estate’s first vineyards. His son, Daniel Fritz, continued to develop the domaine from 1986, before gradually handing over the reins to Thierry Fritz, the current winemaker. Today, the estate remains firmly committed to family values, combining tradition, craftsmanship, and a constant pursuit of quality.

Ideally located in the center of Alsace, Domaine Fritz is an excellent starting point for exploring the region’s picturesque wine villages and rolling vineyard landscapes. Visitors from around the world are warmly welcomed to discover the estate, its history, and its wines in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The tasting cellar is a place of sharing and discovery, where guests can learn about Alsace wines, grape varieties, and winemaking traditions directly from the people who shape them.

The vineyards of Domaine Fritz extend across several parcels surrounding Sigolsheim, benefiting from a wide diversity of soils and exposures that give each wine its own personality. Among these parcels are vineyards located on the prestigious Grand Cru Mambourg, renowned for its marl-limestone soils and exceptional ripening conditions. Wines from this terroir are known for their depth, structure, and excellent aging potential.

Domaine Fritz produces wines from all the iconic Alsatian grape varieties, including Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat, Sylvaner, and Pinot Blanc, as well as Pinot Noir, crafted into elegant and well-balanced red and rosé wines. Each grape variety is vinified separately, allowing visitors to clearly understand the diversity and typicity of Alsace wines through tasting.

The vineyard is managed with a thoughtful and sustainable approach, combining traditional practices with modern techniques. Yields are carefully controlled to ensure concentration and quality. Harvesting is generally done by machine, while the Grand Cru parcels are hand-harvested, ensuring optimal grape selection and respect for the terroir.

In the cellar, winemaking is carried out with great care and attention to detail. Fermentations are closely monitored to preserve the freshness, purity of fruit, and natural balance of the wines. Some cuvées are vinified parcel by parcel, offering an authentic expression of each terroir. This dedication to quality is regularly recognized through awards and distinctions, including selections in the Guide Hachette des Vins.

More than just a tasting, a visit to Domaine Fritz is an immersive wine experience, where international visitors can discover the richness of Alsace wines, meet a passionate winemaking family, and enjoy a genuine moment of connection with the region’s culture and traditions.
