Donatella Cinelli Colombini welcomes visitors to two historic Tuscan estates: Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino and Fattoria del Colle in Trequanda, both rooted in a family heritage dating back to the late 16th century. Since 1998, Donatella has led an independent project that combines tradition, innovation, and a strong commitment to gender equality in the wine industry. Casato Prime Donne stands out as the first Italian winery entirely run by women, from vineyard to cellar.

Located at 225 meters above sea level, Casato Prime Donne is dedicated to Brunello production, while Fattoria del Colle has evolved into a dynamic wine destination offering daily experiences, including guided tours, tastings, cooking classes, and immersive stays in the Tuscan countryside. Both estates emphasize sustainability, authenticity, and a deep connection to the land, offering visitors a rich cultural and sensory journey.

Casato Prime Donne focuses on the production of Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino, crafted exclusively from Sangiovese grapes. The winemaking approach highlights elegance, freshness, and longevity, aiming to revive the “original style” of Brunello inspired by traditional methods from the 1970s–1980s. This includes manual work, fermentation in concrete vats, and the use of selected indigenous yeasts.

The ageing process avoids barriques, favoring French oak casks of increasing size (from 5–7 hectolitres up to 15–40 hectolitres), followed by extended bottle ageing to enhance aromatic complexity. A distinctive feature is the “Tinaia del Vento,” an open-air fermentation area designed to harness natural conditions and support the use of native yeasts.

The wines are known for their refined structure and strong territorial identity, expressing the purity and character of Montalcino’s Sangiovese while maintaining balance and ageing potential.
