Falesco

Winery in Lake Bolsena

About the Winery

Falesco Winery was founded in 1979 by brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella in Montefiascone, in northern Lazio, near Lake Bolsena.

Built on a strong family tradition that began in the 1960s, Falesco was created with a clear vision: to revive and enhance the historic grape varieties of Lazio and Umbria while developing a modern and quality-driven winemaking project.

Today, the estate spans across Lazio and Umbria, with vineyards located between Montefiascone and Montecchio. The winery combines deep knowledge of the territory with advanced technology, aiming to express the unique volcanic soils and diverse terroirs of Central Italy.

Falesco is now part of the Famiglia Cotarella group, representing one of the most important winemaking realities in central Italy, with a strong focus on research, sustainability, and innovation.

About the Wines

Falesco wines are known for combining tradition and innovation, showcasing both indigenous and international grape varieties.

The winery initially focused on recovering native varieties such as Trebbiano, Malvasia, and Roscetto, typical of the Montefiascone area. Over time, it also introduced international grapes like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah to create more structured and modern wines.

The portfolio is divided into two main lines:

Lazio wines, expressing the volcanic terroir around Montefiascone

Umbria wines, crafted from vineyards near Orvieto and Montecchio

Among the most iconic wines:

Montiano (Merlot) – one of the winery’s flagship labels

Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone – a historic white wine of the region

Ferentano (Roscetto) – a refined white expression

Falesco wines are recognized for their balance, structure, and strong territorial identity, reflecting the volcanic soils, climate, and winemaking expertise of the Cotarella family.
