An exclusive place, which boasts more than a thousand years of history and which has hosted many key faces in the world of politics, art and culture of global importance, and which is still today the residence of the family Guicciardini-Strozzi.

HISTORY The Cusona estate has a thousand-year history. The first evidence of its existence dates back to the year 994 A.D. Today the property extends for 530 hectares and emerges among the green Tuscan hills, in front of the famous medieval town of San Gimignano. The Strozzis were powerful statesmen, bankers and major rivals of the Medici. In the early twentieth century, Francesco Guicciardini, mayor of Florence and Minister of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs, binds in marriage to Luisa Strozzi. In 1850 the construction of a large cellar with underground galleries began, and in the seventies, the Prince Girolamo Guicciardini Strozzi, begins the marketing of wines in the world (which still leads together with his wife Irina and their two daughters Natalia and Irina jr) founding the consortium of Vernaccia di San Gimignano of which his daughter Irina is now president.

THE TERRITORY

506 hectares alternate woods and vineyards where wildlife is present all year round. The portion wooded is one of the most fertile of white truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico) of the Crete Senesi. The territory of the estate includes the hunting reserve of Tenute Guicciardini Strozzi, one of the most beautiful in Tuscany, which extends for 380 hectares. The hunts are carried out on pheasants, gray partridges and partridges.

THE WINE

Fattoria di Cusona holds the record of having already produced Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG in the 1200s, first wine with appellation; recited by Dante, Michelangelo, Boccaccio, as well as drunk at the Court of the Medici and the Pope. The super Tuscans ''Millani'' (to celebrate the 1000 years of the estate) and the Sodòle are famous. The production of red wines also falls under the denomination “Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG”. We also produce an excellent Vin Santo a small local production in our second cellar in Maremma gives us another more selective collection of wines that speak of another extraordinary and unique terroir: red and rosé momi, morellino and "Arabesque" vermentino.
