About the Winery
HajaCortezia Wines is located in the village of Cortesia/Assafora, in the historic Colares DOC, one of Portugal’s most unique and resilient wine regions.
Colares gained international recognition in the late 19th century when its vineyards miraculously resisted the phylloxera plague that devastated most of Europe. Thanks to the region’s sandy soils and deep-rooted vines, the vineyards survived untouched, laying the foundation for a winemaking heritage built on resilience and authenticity.
Just a few kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyards are shaped by strong maritime influences, including cooling winds and challenging climatic conditions. While these factors make vineyard work more demanding, they are essential in defining the distinctive character of the terroir. This deep connection to the land and sea is reflected in the winery’s philosophy: “Tradition and Soul by the Sea.”
HajaCortezia follows a traditional and hands-on approach, managing every step of production from vineyard to bottle. The estate preserves old family vineyards while also replanting native varieties such as Ramisco DOC Colares and Malvasia DOC Colares, grown on their own rootstocks in sandy soils, in line with local tradition.
Committed to authenticity, biodiversity, and heritage, the winery continues to develop its vision through viticulture, winemaking, and wine tourism, inviting visitors to discover a truly unique coastal wine landscape.
About the Wines
HajaCortezia Wines are a pure expression of the Colares terroir, crafted using traditional, manual, and ancestral methods with minimal intervention.
The wines originate in the vineyard, often from old “field blend” plots, where multiple grape varieties are planted together. This diversity enhances the complexity and balance of the final wines, creating layered and distinctive profiles that reflect the land’s natural richness.
Each wine comes from specific vineyard parcels, resulting in unique expressions that embody what the winery defines as “true natural terroir.” The focus is on native grape varieties, particularly Ramisco for reds and Malvasia for whites, both deeply rooted in the identity of Colares.
All production is carried out entirely by hand, from cultivation to bottling, ensuring full control over quality and preserving the authenticity of the wines. The result is a collection of wines that combine tradition and innovation, offering a genuine taste of one of Portugal’s most singular wine regions.
