About Winery and Wines

Located in Castelvetro di Modena, in the heart of the Modena hills, La Piana Winery is deeply rooted in a long-standing family farming tradition. The story began in 1951, when Cesare Gianaroli started cultivating and vinifying grapes from his own vineyard on the scenic hills of Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro. The winery was later passed down to his son Graziano, who sadly passed away in 1992.

At just 14 years old, Mirco Gianaroli took on the responsibility of continuing the family legacy. With dedication and vision, he renovated the cellar with modern technologies and restructured the vineyards, significantly improving quality and gaining recognition among both Italian and international wine lovers.

Today, La Piana Winery extends across 8 hectares of vineyards between Castelvetro and Vignola, producing approximately 60,000 bottles annually across 12 labels. Sustainability plays a key role in the estate’s philosophy, with 70% of the energy used in production coming from a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system.

La Piana Winery cultivates native grape varieties including Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro, Pignoletto, Malbo Gentile, and Trebbiano di Modena. The focus is on producing quality wines through natural methods, in harmony with the surrounding territory. Only indigenous vines are grown—grapes that carry a unique charm within their place of origin. From vineyard to cellar, the entire process follows organic practices, promoting environmentally respectful agriculture and creating wines that reflect the true character of each variety.
