About Winery and Wines

L'Agona was born from a family project that allowed us to unite thanks to a common passion: the world of wine. The name of the company itself conveys this strong bond, as each letter corresponds to the initials of our names: Alice, Giorgia, Olivia, Nicoletta, Andrea. Bringing L'Agona to life from scratch was a real adventure. We are not winemakers with a long tradition, but a passionate family who, step by step, has made their dream come true.

Our logo and our labels are much more than just images. They represent our willingness to put our face into what we do. The face shapes in our logo resemble a wine glass with two droplets that create a sense of movement. This symbolizes our dynamism and personality that we put into every single bottle.

Our cellar is located in Terricciola, in the province of Pisa. We are immersed in the greenery of our hills, surrounded by panoramic roads that meander through olive groves and vineyards and pass through small villages. Centuries ago, this area was washed by the sea and the signs of this past are still present in our land. The clay and sandy terroir, rich in fossils, preserves traces of a time when shells and other marine creatures inhabited our hills. These characteristics give L'Agona wines complexity and aromatic elegance on the nose and flavor and depth on the palate.

On our Terricciola estate we cultivate 2 hectares of Sangiovese and 0.5 hectares of Merlot with dedication. Our vineyards are high intensity with 9000 vines per hectare. We adopt the Tuscan Guyot system and carefully prune our vines to encourage good growth of the plant. Every day we work between the rows, where we have reduced mechanization to a minimum. We harvest exclusively by hand and carefully select only the best bunches which we collect in 17 kg boxes so as not to cause the grapes to break. Our Sangiovese is both revolutionary and old-fashioned. We have chosen to break the mold and not follow the trend of wood, favoring vinification in concrete to preserve the authenticity of the vine. For refinement, we use barriques up to the fourth passage, so that the hints of wood do not overpower the aromatic profile of the wine, just like they used to do!
