About Winery and Wines

In 2017 we bought an old stone house to be restored together with 6 hectares of land made up of vineyards, olive trees and woods, with the intention of reviving this ancient farm.
Our "casa agricola" is located in the Municipality of Castel Giorgio (TR) on the edge of the Alfina plateau, a splendid volcanic plateau that extends for thousands of hectares at an altitude of about 550 asl, in an area on the border between Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany.

We currently cultivate about 4.5 hectares of vineyards according to the criteria of organic farming; 1.5 hectares are owned while the rest is rented. In March 2020 we planted about 0.5 hectares which we grafted into the feld thanks to massal selection in an ancient vineyard where you can fnd procanico, drupeggio, verdello and malvasia plants.

In autumn 2021 we rented an ancient “married vineyard”; in this small ecosystem coexist fruit trees, willows, ash trees and maples, which act as support for the vines.

The varieties we grow the most are those typical of the area, such as Procanico, Drupeggio, Verdello and Malvasia for the white wines and Sangiovese for the reds.

Spontaneous fermentations, no fltering or clarifcations and no addition of any type of oenological product represent our philosophy in the cellar.

We currently produce 6 wines: Malauva Bianco, Malauva Rosato, Osarella, Tierra, Rosarella and Rebelle Mariage.
Every year we also study new vinifcations to better understand the different expressions of the varieties we grow and to expand the types of wine we produce.

The harvest usually begins at the end of August with the earliest varieties and ends towards the

end of September with the red varieties. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and a careful selection is made in the feld to bring only perfectly healthy grapes to the cellar.

Our project aims to create a small diversifed ecosystem, in which vineyards, olive trees, vegetable gardens and animals are all related to each other in order to produce food in a natural and respectful way for nature.

Tierra - white wine

This white wine comes from a 40-year-old vineyard on volcanic soil in the municipality of Orvieto, a few kilometers from Lazio and Tuscany.
The vines of this wine are those typical of our territory: Procanico for 70%, Drupeggio, Verdello and Malvasia for the remaining 30%.The grapes are harvested and left to macerate for a day. Subsequently they are pressed in a hydraulic press; fermentation and aging take place in steel tanks.

Rosarella - rosé wine

Same vineyard and same varieties as our Tierra. In the last stage of the fermentation the white must extracted from the grapes is passed over the marcs of our Sangiovese for about 3 days.
Fermentation and aging in steel tanks.

Rebelle Mariage - sparkling wine

This wine comes from a very young vineyard, about 3 years old, which we have planted with grafting in the feld. This allowed us to immediately have very resistant and productive plants. Direct pressing of the Procanico, Malvasia, Drupeggio and Verdello grapes. Fermentation in steel, refermentation in the bottle with the addition of must obtained from a late harvest of the same varieties, no disgorgement.

Malauva Bianco - white wine

Married vineyard of about 80 years old on volcanic soils at about 500 meters asl. The varieties present are: Procanico for 80%, Drupeggio, Verdello and Malvasia for the remaining 20%. The grapes are destemmed, macerated for 5 days on their skins and then pressed; 20% of the grapes are macerated in whole clusters. The must is then transferred to a steel tank to complete the fermentation phase.

Malauva Rosato - rosé wine

40 years old vineyard on clayey soil.
In this Sangiovese rosé, 90% of the grapes are harvested and immediately pressed in a hydraulic press, while the remaining 10% is left on the skins until the end of fermentation. Vinifcation and aging in steel.

Osarella - vino rosso

Osarella is the name of the hamlet in the municipality of Orvieto where the vineyard is located; it is a land at 320mt asl, facing south, characterized by clayey soils rich in fossil shells. The vineyard is about 30 years old and has a productivity of about 50 qt per hectare. The Sangiovese grapes are harvested, destemmed and macerated on their skins throughout the course of fermentation; 20% of the grapes are macerated in whole clusters. This is followed by refnement in steel tanks.
