About Winery and Wines
Manzwine embodies values of quality, recuperation, and revitalization. The estate's deep-rooted history has shaped its approach to winemaking, projecting its experiences and knowledge into each bottle.
The estate's concept reflects that of a wine boutique, emphasizing premium quality with delicate, careful production that yields rich aromas and velvety flavors. With 14 distinct labels, each featuring a modern yet historically influenced design, Manzwine has become a prominent national brand in Portugal. Internationally, it stands as a benchmark of excellence, exporting a significant portion of its production to over 30 countries.
The cornerstone of the Manzwine project is the recovery and revitalization of regional history, traditions, and customs. From the rediscovery of the rare Jampal grape variety to the restoration of the old wine press and the primary school, the estate has undertaken a significant journey of historical preservation and renewal.
Once a forgotten, abandoned, and undervalued grape variety on the brink of disappearance, the Jampal grape now produces a truly unique wine, distinguished by its exceptional characteristics and widely acclaimed by international experts.
In the early 2000s, the discovery of the last remaining Jampal vines in an abandoned vineyard marked the beginning of a significant revival. Following an extensive search and involvement of specialists, the grape’s identity was confirmed. Over a decade of pioneering efforts to recover this variety has led to the creation of Dona Fátima, a wine that embodies the essence of the Jampal grape. It is a unique offering for true connoisseurs.
The recognition came swiftly, with Dona Fátima 100% Jampal earning a spot among the 50 Best Wines of Portugal in 2011, propelling the Jampal grape to international prominence. Since then, sommeliers and wine critics around the globe have praised the elegance, character, and authenticity of Dona Fátima, highlighting the bold endeavor to restore a nearly extinct Portuguese wine heritage.
