Mazza Società Agricola s.s.
About the Winery
Mazza Winery is nestled among the hills of Chianti and extends over 40 hectares, 24 of which are cultivated with vineyards for the production of Chianti Classico and Tuscan IGT. It is entirely family-run, and the current owners, Massimo and Roberto, take care of the winery and the estate, respectively, combining their efforts with those of the family. This sense of tradition is also reflected in their products, not only in the uniqueness and passion put into every glass, but also in their names. In fact, each wine or spirit bears the name of a family member or relates to Podere Montelupo. The values of the land and the territory are deeply ingrained in the company, so much so that a few years ago, they decided to embark on the path toward organic conversion for crop management, officially becoming organic in 2024.
About the Wines
The estate's vines grow in the Chianti Classico production area to express the typical characteristics of the 'Gallo Nero' territory. A typical terroir of the south-east area of the municipality of Castellina in Chianti, characterized by clay and limestone soils, with the presence of sand and marine fossils. The vineyards are exposed to the southeast and northwest with a planting density of about 4,600 vines per hectare.
Mazza Winery's vineyards provide them each year with quality grapes for the production of DOCG and IGT wines. All the estate's vineyards are trained using the Guyot system to ensure excellent leaf exposure, improving the growth of both the plants and the grapes. Among the rows of red grapes, we mainly find Sangiovese, which forms the basis of all the estate's Chianti Classico DOCG wines, but also Canaiolo, Colorino, Ciliegiolo, Alicante Bouschet, and Cabernet Sauvignon for their Super Tuscan IGT. Moving to the white grape rows, Trebbiano Toscano predominates, but there are also varieties of Malvasia, Chardonnay, and Ansonica.
